A Great Charity Walk Program has come to Stage-Hawassa

Mary Joy Aid through Development has been working on Private-Public-Community Partnership Move, and local resource mobilization in country and abroad since the last three years. It started here in the metropolis and gradually scaled up to the regions. Volunteer artists and mass media professionals have been the main facilitators and implementers throughout the whole process, and to this effect a walk program was held in the last November, 2008 in Addis Ababa, where 12,000 people representing different bodies have participated.

The main purpose of this program is to create an opportunity for citizens, other charity organizations and individuals to realize their social responsibilities and moral obligations in supporting those most in need.

The fund obtained from the program aims to address the basic social and psychological problems of senior citizens and children through establishing multi-generational center.

The center is believed to be a place, where various historical, cultural and traditional heritages, experiences or practices being properly documented, shared and kept for the next generation.

What is equally important with this program is it helps to catalyze, integrate unorganized efforts of individuals, organizations, the business people, and local community in reaching vulnerable children, senior citizens and others in an impacted oriented manner.

By and large, it aims to ensure the enhancement of volunteerism and genuine community participation in poverty reduction.

In a similar fashion, a second charity walk program is coming soon. Preparations have been finalized and this special event with a theme “I Walk to Discharge My Responsibility” will take place on April 05, 2009 in Hawassa City, the Capital of Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Regional State.

It is understood that more than 20,000 people will participate in the program, and as usual Mary Joy and volunteer artists committee are in charge with facilitating and coordinating the program.

Thus, we cordially invite you to participate in this program, encourage and support these communal efforts in mitigating the challenges of vulnerable members of the society.

Please get involved!!
